Dr Jonathan Tan offers consultations through Video Telehealth and Face to Face (F2F) sessions. Three F2F Locations include:

Our principal practitioner, Dr Jonathan Tan, graduated from the University of Melbourne, completed his gastroenterology training in various tertiary Melbourne hospitals before pursuing his passion in Interventional Endoscopy at the Alfred Hospital Melbourne. At Alfred, he aid the completion of various clinical trials and presented his work at International landmark Gastroenterology conferences. Jonathan then embarked on a one-year overseas interventional endoscopy fellowship at the University of British Columbia further refining his skills in ERCP and EUS in a renowned liver transplant centre in Vancouver Canada.

Since returning, Jonathan holds a public appointment at Boxhill Hospital as one of the senior visiting medical staff. Jonathan sees patients with all forms of gut related problems with special interests in managing pancreas-biliary related diseases and colorectal cancer screening/prevention. He performs endoscopy procedures at various private hospitals in Eastern and Western parts of Melbourne including the largest private hospital in Victoria, Epworth Richmond to deliver excellent patient care. He attends Epworth’s weekly Multidisciplinary Gastrointestinal meetings to discuss various clinical cases in a team approach with other esteemed colleagues to achieved the best possible outcome for all his patients. Good communication to various medical and allied health professions is a core value that Jonathan holds.

Dr Jonathan Tan offers consultations and procedures at various locations across Melbourne for patients’ convenience. Urgent appointments (both consultation and endoscopy) can be accommodated upon request by the referring practitioner. Apart from English, Jonathan converses in fluent Chinese/ Mandarin. In his free time, Jonathan enjoys spending time with his wife and three young children in exploring various nature walks and discovering good cafes around town.

What is Interventional Endoscopy? 

Interventional Endoscopy involves utility of the endoscope to help manage various gastrointestinal pancreatic-biliary related problems. This minimises the need for open/key hole surgery where possible and aids the diagnosis/management in various diseases for surgery. This encompasses various techniques including :

  • ERCP ie. Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography

  • EUS ie. Endoscopic Ultrasound to examine the bile duct and pancreas

  • EMR ie. Endoscopic mucosal resection for large colonic polyp removal

  • DBE ie. Double Balloon Enteroscopy to examine the small bowel

  • Interventional Endoscopy procedures ie. ERCP, EUS, EMR and DBE

Open access gastroscopy and colonoscopy ie. directly having the endoscopy procedures without the need for a prior consultation, is available to medically suitable patients upon request by your referring doctor.

  • No additional out of pocket charges ie. NO GAP are incurred for elective diagnostic endoscopy procedures scheduled during weekdays - for patients that have eligible hospital private health insurance with coverage to GAP COVER rates.

  • Please clarify with your health fund if you have the appropriate coverage under your policy- our friendly receptionist are able to provide you with relevant procedural item numbers to perform this check with your health fund.

  • Procedures performed out of hours as an Emergency will incur a small gap

  • Endoscopic mucosal removal (EMR) of a large colonic polyp that requires an extended amount of time, may incur a GAP fee of up to $500 as part of the Gap cover scheme. Alternatively, Dr Tan is able to perform such procedures without any Gap charges in a public hospital through the public hospital waiting list.

  • Patients without medicare coverage wanting to perform endoscopy procedures are able to do so at various convenient Epworth locations as self funded patients or through one’s private health insurance. Full payment will be collected PRIOR to procedure with a receipt provided to you post procedure to claim from your health fund.


Aged Care Pensioners have access to discounted consultation rates.
